| Early Childhood Programs Thompson Child Development Center (Charlotte, North Charlotte) Thompson Child & Family Focus began providing comprehensive early childhood education and care (ages birth to 5) in 1996 with the opening of the Thompson Child Development Center in the fragile community of North Charlotte. A majority of the children served have high risk factors challenging their academic and lifelong development. These factors include routine exposure to domestic violence, substance abuse in the home, teen pregnancy, single parenting, unemployment and other financial burdens. Through a carefully designed program of education and developmental supports, children and their families are prepared for school success to help them move toward a bright and productive future. The Thompson Child Development Center holds a Five-Star rated license from the State of North Carolina and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). In addition, the Thompson Child Development Center has been recognized by The Duke Endowment as one of only a handful of Model Childcare Centers in all of North Carolina. This partnership enables Thompson to provide technical assistance and support to other centers as they work to improve the quality of care they offer. |
