Two-year-old "Joshua" was diagnosed
with developmental delays such as
sensory issues and speech/language
difficulties early in his life.

At Thompson Child Development
Center, he received intensive services
including speech/language therapy,
occupational therapy andcommunity
based rehabilitation services.

Joshua was recently pronounced
"age-appropriate" and is in the
process of being successfully
discharged from special services.

His single mother, Mary, is very
involved with the Center, taking
advantage of training opportunities,
implementing parenting strategies
at home and helping to compile the
parent newsletter.

Early Childhood Programs

The early years of a child's development are the most critical to academic and social success. Thompson Early Childhood Services meets the needs of infants through pre-kindergarten at the Thompson Child Development Center on North Davidson Street in Charlotte, and through its Early Childhood Outreach network.

A very diverse population with a focus on families in crisis is served. Building and empowering families is the keystone. Through strong family partnerships, Thompson works to provide inclusion and happier outlooks for all children it serves.
