A majority of the children served here have high-risk factors challenging their social, emotional and academic development. Factors include routine exposure to domestic violence, substance abuse in the home, mental illness, teen pregnancy, single parenting, unemployment and extreme poverty. One critical aspect of Thompson’s mission is to help break such cycles by revitalizing communities – that is the ultimate goal of our Child Development Center.
Utilizing evidence-based curricula, the agency’s carefully aligned child development programs are integrated with family education and certified mental-health components that reach out to strengthen entire families and connect them across the broader community. The Thompson program helps develop skill-sets that support positive social, emotional and self-regulatory behaviors. Ongoing communications foster respectful partnerships between staff, families and children.
In a nutshell, Thompson leverages its Child Development Center to strengthen children before their needs may become so great that they require the type of intervention found at Saint Peter’s Lane. Through a carefully designed system of education and developmental support, we prepare children for school success that leads toward a bright and productive future. Programs address a variety of needs to ensure the social, emotional, intellectual and physical development of each child within our extended family.
Thompson Child Development Center is five-star state licensed and accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Academic success is evidenced in the high levels of preschool readiness across five domains of development, as well as through changes noted in the areas of family engagement, responsibility and understanding about child well-being.
