Treatment Programs

Psychiatric Residential Treatment (PRTF)

Psychiatric Residential Services provides an intensive clinical setting within safe, child-friendly living environments for children with mental health diagnoses.

Program highlights:

  • Specialized services for children challenged by trauma and/or attachment disorders, or with substantial history of multiple placements, especially those whose placements have disrupted due to attachment issues.
  • Relationship focused treatment milieu based on the work of and clinically supported by Dr. Dan Hughes, a nationally renowned expert in the treatment of children with attachment disorders.
  • Licensed clinicians located in every cottage.
  • Serving children ages 6 to 12 and their families.
  • One mentor assigned to every two children to focus on relationship building.
  • Located in Charlotte/Matthews, NC, area.

  • For children in the custody of families (adoptive, biological, kinship and foster placements); Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must participate in family therapy as directed by the treatment team and per the contract signed at admission.
  • Children in the custody of the Department of Social Services will be accepted into care with the following expectation; Once stabilized, a family must be identified and become involved in therapy and planning for the child.

The healing process often begins through interaction with trained staff, including individual psychotherapy sessions with licensed therapists and a child psychiatrist. Our Spiritual Education Coordinator offers Christian education and leads a weekly chapel service.

Children learn to build healthy relationships, to trust adults and to respect themselves. In some cases, children are able to be reunited with a biological family member. When this is not possible, appropriate placement with a foster family or in a group home is sought. In all cases, safe and loving environments are the primary consideration.
