At two and a half years of age, Jack
was taken from his biological mother
due to neglect and exposure to
domestic violence. He was placed in
five foster homes before finding his
future adoptive parents. For the next
two years, he acted out through
aggression, defiance and destruction
of property at home and school.
Jack did not trust or feel safe around
anyone, even his adoptive parents.

"Jack" was admitted to Thompson
where he spent eight months in the
specialized Attachment Disorder
treatment component of the
Residential Treatment Program. After
Jack's discharge, his Dad sent a
Thompson therapist this email:

"The therapy we received as a family
from you has gotten me to a place
where I am much more able to focus
on the things therapeutically that
Jack needs. THANK YOU!! Thompson
has changed my life. Thompson helped
me the most and gave Jack parents
who were ready to raise a child with
his needs. Because the change you
made in me was the most profound in
all, this has helped Jack more than you know. I will always be thankful for that."

Treatment Programs

Thompson has adopted a relationship-based philosophy specializing in trauma and attachment challenges. The 40-acre Saint Peter’s Lane campus in Matthews, North Carolina (southeast Charlotte) provides a safe healing place for children who are suffering from severe emotional and behavioral disorders due to abuse and neglect.

The Thompson treatment continuum includes the following components:

     > Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility
     > Day Treatment Educational Services
     > Outpatient Services

Each treatment component is relationship-based, research driven and carefully designed to help fragile children heal from the past, find stability in the present and face the future with confidence.
