Thompson Family Forward™
service overview
provides in-home, rapid, intensive stabilization programs that prevent unnecessary teen foster care entry
how it works
Behavioral challenges in teens—often stemming from parent-child conflict or untreated trauma—can lead to status offenses such as truancy, running away, or other behaviors that place youth at risk of foster care entry. Thompson Family Forward™ offers a short-term, intensive family stabilization model that helps keep teens safely at home while strengthening family capacity. The program includes:
Up to 90 days of intensive in-home stabilization support
Caregiver coaching and skill-building + crisis response and safety planning
Evidence-based behavioral health interventions
Minimum weekly contact, supplemented by phone and electronic check-ins
Voluntary kinship respite care stipend for approved caregivers (up to 7 days/nights)
Access to goods and services not available through community programs
Connections to community resources, plus coordination with schools and community supports
Structured transition and step-down planning
our goal: keep teens out of foster care
Across child welfare systems, adolescents are often removed from their homes due to behavioral crises and family conflict – not abuse or neglect. When rapid stabilization isn’t possible, foster care becomes the default. By keeping families together, we reduce crisis-driven costs, safeguard system capacity, and support stronger, healthier communities.
