Friends of the Children – Charlotte support Colton and his family on their journey to long-term stability

Colton’s two loves in life are football and the Bible. His uncle is a pastor and Colton has a skill for memorizing and reciting Bible verses and is interested in following in his uncle’s footsteps with a career in the church. Colton struggles academically, he currently attends regular classes, but has a intellectual disability diagnosis. His school does not offer Exceptional Child (EC) classes which would be a hugely beneficial to Colton’s success. Colton’s family struggles with housing, in the past year and a half they have lived with family, friends, and in hotels.

Colton’s Friends of the Children – Charlotte mentor has secured EC tutoring which supports his academic development. The Gen2 aspect assists his mother with connection to housing resources and are supporting her to overcome their homelessness. Colton is working with his mentor to improve his social and relationship skills and his confidence has sky-rocketed. Colton is excelling at drama and becoming more comfortable doing things outside of his comfort zone. His mentor is highlighting these successes as proof that he can excel at anything he sets his heart on.
