63 Eastern NC Foster Care Homes Transition to Thompson

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – Thompson Child & Family Focus (Thompson), Charlotte’s leading human services organization, officially transitioned 63 licensed foster care homes from Touchstone Residential Services, as of May 1, 2020.

A mix of 58 therapeutic and family foster youth, ranging in age from 2 to 17 years old will start being supported by Thompson this Friday. These homes are located in counties stretching from the Piedmont to the coast, including Brunswick, Columbus, Cumberland, Duplin, Durham, New Hanover, Onslow, Pender, Robeson, Sampson, and Wake. Touchstone Residential Services has been providing exceptional family and therapeutic foster care in the region for over 10 years.

After careful consideration, Touchstone made the decision to transition from foster care services, at the end of their fiscal year (June 30). With shared values of trauma-informed care and quality service, Touchstone reached out directly to Thompson as the natural choice for the foster care transition. “We are extremely pleased with the excellent response given from Thompson Child & Family Focus, to ensure that continuity of care will be provided for these children and youth. In addition, we know Touchstone’s quality foster care staff transitioning to Thompson, will be exceptional members of your team.” Jeff Jenkins, CEO, Touchstone Residential Services.

Touchstone Residential Services will continue to provide community-based services to those with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Eastern North Carolina.

“We are incredibly excited and humbled to be the provider that is stepping in to ensure these youth are able to maintain continuity of care,” said Matt Simon, Chief of Programs at Thompson. “We know children in foster care have experienced countless difficult transitions. Luckily, we were able to hire seven of Touchstone’s quality foster care staff to keep consistency in these relationships.”

“Thompson is eager to bring our full continuum of mental health services to eastern NC including therapy, telepsychiatry and parenting supports,” continued Mr. Simon. “There is a gap in providers who are willing to work with our community’s most traumatized and challenging youth. Thompson will be that provider. ”
