Camila’s family are communicating better with help from School-Based Case Management

Camila is the mother of a teenage daughter and is striving to strengthen their relationship moving forward. The family recently underwent significant changes after Camila and her husband separated but he was still living in the household. As a Spanish only speaker Camila has struggled to identify support services for herself and her daughter to assist during this transition. The stress has taken a toll on both her and her daughter. After struggles at school, her daughter was identified to receive School-Based Mental Health support.

While discussing the services her daughter will receive, our case managers felt the family would also benefit from our School-Based Case Management program. Despite initially claiming to be fine, Camila was struggling. When she finally opened up, she revealed concerns over the new family dynamics and communication problems. Our Case Manager identified a support group and family therapy to encourage the family to sit down and communicate. This has helped communication and allows them to spend more time together. She also registered for ESL courses to improve her English language skills.

‘The resources our Case Manager connected us with have helped improve our family communication and dynamics.’ ~ Camila
