Friends of the Children – Charlotte gives Aldon the consistent and caring support he needs

Aldon loves to play football and dreams of playing in the NFL, running track, or being a truck driver to allow him to travel and see the world. He also enjoys creating voice-overs and YouTube videos. Aldon struggles with anger and behavioral problems, in part due to a ADHD diagnosis but also frustration over being unable to participate in all the extra-curricular activities he is interested in. His mother is a single parent and works long hours. Aldon’s father, despite living nearby with his other son, is not often present in Aldon’s life. This also causes some sadness and resentment for Aldon.

Aldon was selected for the Friends of the Children – Charlotte program and looks forward to seeing his ‘Friend’ both in and outside school. His weekly outing are the highlight of his week as he gets to do and experience things he would otherwise not have the opportunity to do, even simple things like trying new foods. During their time, Aldon and his ‘Friend’ also work on academic success, address his frustrations to reduce behavioral issues and set goals for the future. Aldon’s mother is fully invested in the program, she understands the importance of a positive, stable male-figure in Aldon’s life, especially as he gets older.

‘I see the positive effect on Aldon’s behavior and attitude each week after his outing with his Friend ‘ Aldon’s mom.
