Friends of the Children helps Christian find his spark

Friends of the Children helps Christian find his spark

Christian is one of the most optimistic children you will ever know. He has such a big heart and always looks out and advocates for his sisters. He is the middle child and takes his role of big and little brother seriously. Christian comes from a single-parent family, and while his mother struggles with her mental health, she still maintains a loving and caring relationship with her kids and family. Christian has low self-confidence and found managing his behavior at school difficult. His academic scores were declining as a result.

Christian is part of our Friends of the Children- Charlotte program. His mentor worked with Christian on his School Success goal, and stepped in as a liaison between the school and Christian‘s mom to start the process of getting an Individualized Education Program/Plan. His mentor helped Christian find his spark outside of school to help him stay motivated. Christian learned self-management skills and how to verbalize his thoughts and concerns. His self doubt decreased and helped him in and out of school to create a sense of belonging amongst his peers.

‘We worked hard to find ways to motivate Christian to believe in himself and to enjoy life in and out of school.’ ~ Christian’s mentor
