Friends of the Children supports Raul’s emotional growth

Friends of the Children supports Raul’s emotional growth

Raul is a typical 1st-grader he loves to play outside with his friends and is always ready for a game of soccer or to play video games. He lives at home with his mom and younger brother. Raul experienced a traumatic incident at a very young age and his mom has tried several times to set him up to see a therapist, each attempt ended with him being waitlisted. When Raul started school he would become overwhelmed very easily and would regularly end out crying or having emotional outbursts.

Raul was selected for the Friends of the Children – Charlotte program, and now has a long-term, professional mentor to support him. Raul and his Friend have worked on skills to help him regulate his emotions to reduce and avoid outbursts. Raul is now better able to focus on school work and is exceling in class. Emotionally he is improving his relationship building skills and having more positive interactions with his peers. His mom loves and supports this program is excited to see him using the skills he has learned at home too.

‘It has been great to see Raul grow emotionally and physically. He is now having more positive reactions with his peers.’ ~ Raul’s Friend
