Thanks to Friends of the Children – Charlotte, Jayla is now making good progress

Jayla always has her hair and nails done, and loves to dance and cheer. She likes to make up rap songs with dances, but can be shy about sharing her musical abilities. Virtual school was a struggle for Jayla last year as her mom works night shift and could not assist during the day, resulting in many absences and Jayla falling behind academically. Being below grade level makes Jayla frustrated and often leads to behavioral issues. This year at school has been easier, but Jayla has also has been diagnosed with ADHD, and is yet to start treatment.

Jayla is part of the Friends of the Children – Charlotte program, and has made positive improvements in her relationship building skills, and uses guided imagery as a self soothing strategy. She likes to take a visual trip to the mountains and imagining herself catching snowflakes on her tongue. Jayla has also been connected with a reading tutor, and is now making good progress in this area. The family has also been connected with parenting classes, and other financial and support resources since the pandemic.

”The impact this program has had on this family has been a game-changer, it is incredible to see the changes.’ Jayla’s Friend.
