Overcoming Language Barriers helped the Morales Family participate in Family Education Classes

Mr. & Mrs. Morales are Spanish-speaking and are working hard to to reunite their family. The children were taken into foster care by DSS and the parents have found it difficult to navigate the DSS system as they do not speak fluent English, leaving them frustrated and disappointed. DSS referred them to Thompson’s Family Education Classes to learn parenting skills and child development as part of the process and requirements to regain custody of their children.

The Morales’ have been attending the Incredible Years Preschool Age program, and have been fully engaged in the sessions and complete all home assignments. Both parents have made a considerable effort to participate and complete the class with the assistance of an interpreter to overcome any language difficulties. The activities and discussions in class promote positive changes in these parents and will help them on their journey to be reunited and a part of children’s lives again. The class facilitator has also assisted them to better understand and navigate their situation with DSS.

‘We are so grateful for all the support and skills received in this class, and are excited to be closer to having our children back’ ~ Mr. & Mrs. Morales.
