School-based therapy ensures Jayla receives the support she needs

Jayla loves sports, especially soccer. But, her home life has been too disrupted to spend much time playing. Her mother lost her job and household finances and food availability are now a constant worry for both of them. These adult concerns proved too much for a high-schooler and Jayla now suffers from anxiety and depression. As a result, she has struggled with school attendance and completing required coursework.

Luckily, Jayla is a student where Thompson provides school-based outpatient therapy. Our therapist intervened and helped Jayla prioritize consistent school attendance, participating in class, and completing classwork on-time. Jayla is also receiving case management and mentoring services. She is learning to focus on self-care, prioritizing her own needs and studies, and learning to leave the concerns of adult responsibilities to her mom.

‘If I couldn’t receive services at school, I wouldn’t be able to consistently attend my appointments.’ ~ Jayla
