The Marin’s Family Partner helped them set goals, identify resources, advocate for themselves

Mr. and Mrs. Marin both want the best for their two boys, ensuring that they follow a good path in life. Despite their best intentions, their strict discipline led them to DSS involvement due to concerns about physical abuse. The Marins temporarily lost custody of their children and could only have supervised visitation. They were advised to attend parenting classes to gain new tools and alternatives for disciplining their children. The Marins both grew up in a culture where harsher physical discipline is accepted.

 

Mr. and Mrs. Marin were referred to Thompson and given a Family Partner for additional support and assistance during their open case with DSS. They previously enrolled in a parenting class but were unable to complete it due to their work schedule. Being able to attend a class in their native language was a huge benefit and they eagerly attended the class each week to learn the skills they will need when their boys return home. They were also connected to additional resources to support them through this process and into the future.
