Thompson’s Placement Stability Unit helps get Samantha back on track

Samantha was once focused on dance but this changed when she was placed in a foster home separate from her older sister. She ran away from her foster home and became homeless. Her sister tried to keep in touch, but life on the streets led Samantha to involvement with drugs and crime. Law enforcement eventually found Samantha and at her hearing the judge placed her in a juvenile justice facility. While there, she was able to refrain from drug use and get clean.

Thompson’s Placement Stability Unit (TPSU) staff became aware of Samantha’s story as we were providing services for her older sister. At her next DSS hearing their grandmother received custody of both girls. Our TPSU team got Samantha referred for services after contacting DSS. Samantha committed to maintaining her sobriety and our TPSU team got her approved for one-on-one RIZE Drug Prevention support. Our team helped Samantha set goals, including completing her GED and obtaining part-time employment.
