Mr. Garvey wants to improve the connection with his children to become a better father. He struggles to effectively communicate with his daughters, ages 4 and 7 years old. He does not feel equipped or confident in raising and disciplining his older child who has ADHD. He feels that she doesn’t listens well, and chooses when and what to hear. His frustration leads to him getting louder or talking harder to get her attention, often resulting in both girls becoming scared.
Initially, Mr. Garvey joined the Incredible Years® program at the suggestion of his wife, but soon began to understand the value of improving his connection with his daughters. He valued parent discussions on the videos used and their experiences and suggestions. The class also enabled Mr. Garvey to identify and break the patterns and habits of generational parenting, and replace them with more positive parenting skills. By using a gentler, calmer voice he sees his daughters engage and react more positively.
