Vaya Health Partners with Thompson to Announce Expansion of Enhanced Residential Treatment Center

Center to Begin Serving Female Youth in September

ASHEVILLE, NC – In partnership with Child & Family Focus, Vaya Health announces that the Enhanced Residential Treatment Center in Matthews, NC will begin serving female adolescents this month.

Until September, the treatment center focused its services on males, ages 11-17, in need of residential care and support–often due to childhood trauma. This unique Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) serves individuals across Vaya’s region, focusing on assessment and stabilization–with the goal of transitioning members back into their communities with the support they need.

This facility provides members with person-centered, trauma-informed care, typically over the course of 45 to 60 days. Currently, the 12-bed facility, located on Thompson’s Matthews campus, prioritizes family functioning and aftercare to prevent repeat stays for those with behavioral health challenges.

We are thrilled that the Enhanced Residential Treatment Center is able to offer its services and treatment to a wider population across Vaya’s region,” said Ashley Parks, Child and Family Treatment Continuum Director at Vaya Health. “Since its opening in 2022, this center has impacted young lives across the community — ensuring these members have the support and resources they need to return back to their home environments.

During the program, members will receive:
● 24/7 nursing support and staff
● Psychiatric Care
● Individualized Treatment
● One-on-one and small-group educational instruction
● Individual, group and family therapy, as well as access to recreational therapy, animal-assisted therapy and therapeutic gardening.

Throughout the course of the program, members begin Family Centered Treatment services and High-Fidelity Wraparound to help ensure positive outcomes as members transition back home.

Thompson President and CEO Will Jones echoed the sentiment, stating, “We’re equipping youth and families with the skills, strategies, and support to transform their lives through improved mindsets and healthy relationships.”
