The Johnson family rebuilds their credit history and their future

The family started having housing problems two years ago, after Ms. Johnson was out of work for a couple of months and fell behind on the rent at their apartment. The apartment complex then refused to accept payment for the arrears and evicted the family, also negatively impacting Ms. Johnson’s credit score and ability to find a new apartment. This resulted in the family having to turn to living in a hotel at a much increased monthly cost of approximately $1,700.

The Johnson family was one of those selected for temporary, transitional housing during the COVID-19 stay at home order. This not only provided safe housing for the family but also allowed Ms. Johnson to pay off her eviction and other bills to improve her credit score. She was also connected with community resources to help find stable housing, and will be moving shortly.
