Our School-Based Case Management team helped Gloria identify goals and resources

Gloria is a loving and caring single mother to two active boys who wants her children to have a better chance at life than herself. The family became homeless after illness left Gloria unable to work. With mounting bills, little income, few local supports, and unaware of available resources, they moved into a motel, hoping it was a short-term solution. The weekly motel rent made it hard to save a security deposit, even if an affordable apartment could be found. Gloria’s lack of employment and income added to the difficulties of securing a home.

Gloria’s children were identified at school as McKinney-Vento eligible and connected with Thompson’s school-based services team. Gloria worked with our team to develop an action plan with several areas of focus – disabilities resources, housing, and medical case management. We networked with Loaves and Fishes to have food delivered to Gloria and her children. Our school-based therapy services supported her children to process the trauma of homelessness and learn constructive ways to handle their emotions.

We are so proud of how far Gloria has come and are hopeful she’ll continue progressing towards self-sufficiency.’ ~ Gloria’s Case Worker
