Early Childhood Outreach

Utilizing the Thompson Child Development Center as a best-practices model, Thompson Early Childhood Outreach Services mentors more than 100 early childhood programs by offering: behavior intervention, program quality support, professional trainings, technical assistance, specialized therapy and parent support to early childhood providers, children and families throughout Mecklenburg, Union and Cabarrus counties in North Carolina.

The focus of our Early Childhood Outreach Service is to promote school readiness through social, emotional skill development and assisting centers in creating and sustaining high-quality learning environments.

Polliwog- Behavior Intervention 

The Polliwog Program serves children whose behavioral challenges directly affect their placement in an early childhood program, and/or children who are ineligible to receive Speech, Occupational, and Physical therapies from Children’s Development Services Agency (CDSA) or Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools (CMS).

Parent Education

Make Parenting a Pleasure (for families with children birth to 3 years)

  • Make Parenting a Pleasure is a group-based parent education and support program for those with children birth–3 years of age designed to prevent and address stress, isolation, and a lack of adequate parenting information. Participants attend weekly two hour sessions for 12 weeks.

The Incredible Years (for families with children 3-12 years)

  • The preschool and school-age Incredible Years parent training program is an evidence-based program designed to support parents in creating a strong foundation for life-long learning, development, and growth for their child.
  • Length of Class: Participants attend weekly two-hour sessions for 16 weeks.

Counseling Services

Thompson offers counseling services for children, adolescents, adults, and families. We work with people from a variety of backgrounds, offering counseling to clients with private insurance or Medicaid. We have exceptionally talented and passionate counselors (all are licensed LCSW, LPC, or LMFT) who are here to help YOU. Our counselors have a variety of specialties and offer flexible evening hours to make sure that scheduling is not a barrier to someone getting the help they need.
