Liberty finds her spark with help from Friends of the Children

Liberty is a natural leader – she is confident and outgoing. She aspires to become a hairdresser like her mom and is very family oriented. She is protective and loves to look out for others. Her confidence can lead to her being outspoken, and she has been classified as a bully amongst her peers and school officials. Liberty experienced many transitions and her mother lives in Wilmington and she sees her during school breaks. Liberty has difficulties building relationships and convinced herself she doesn’t need friends.

Being part of the Friends of the Children – Charlotte program has given Liberty consistency. She has been working on positive relationship building to help her find her spark and a sense of belonging. Her school recently launched a step team and Liberty was extremely motivated to try out. This opportunity helped give Liberty a sense of purpose and an appreciation of the importance of teamwork. She saw that her dedication and effort were recognized as she was chosen for the team.
