Transitional Living Coach:  Wendover Rd. Campus – Charlotte, NC

Thompson is looking for an exceptional, passionate, dedicated human services professional to help change the lives of young adults in our community. Thompson is launching a new program which will support young adults ages 16-21 as they transition to adulthood. These transitional living “coaches” will work with a caseload of eight young adults, most of whom are transitioning out of the foster care or juvenile justice systems. The coach will support each youth in achieving their individualized goals which will support a successful transition to adulthood. Expected outcomes from this program will be young adults maintaining stable housing, engaging in productive work or educational activities, remaining free from legal involvement and becoming self-sufficient. Coaches will work in the home and community, meeting these youth where they work, live and spend their time. Building strong, trusting therapeutic relationships will be a critical skill for all Thompson coaches.

This person will also:

  • Provide transitional living services 24/7/365 in the home, community, workplace, school, etc.
  • Provides direct skill building regarding life skills, vocational skills, budgeting, decision making, job interviewing, communication skills, etc.
  • Develop and monitor the client’s person-centered plan.
  • Develops and oversees (when applicable) an effective Child & Family Team, utilizing natural and professional supports and working with parent/guardians as partners in care.
  • Facilitates monthly Child & Family Team meetings.
  • Completes all service documentation and return for appropriate billing and filing in client records/files.
  • Develops strong working relationships with key stakeholders such as DJJ, YFS, and community employers.
  • Conducts Casey Life Skills interviews to establish baseline and measure progress.

Required Education: Staff must have a High School diploma or GED and have a minimum of two years of experience working with young adults with Serious Emotional Disturbance (SED) or a combination of work experience and education with one year of education substituting for one year of experience. Position requires staff to be at least 21 years of age by their start date.  For consideration, applicants must be 21 years of age to work in this program. Bachelors Degree in Human Services or related field or Masters degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Experience working with Person Centered Plans, Medicaid services and authorizations strongly preferred.

Data Analyst:  St. Peter’s Ln. Campus – Matthews, NC

Thompson Child & Family Focus, located in the Charlotte-Matthews area, seeks a highly skilled individual to manage the collecting, analyzing, and reporting of outcomes data in support of performance and quality improvement efforts for all programs and support departments.

Position Details:

  • Gathers data on performance metrics to facilitate the review of program and support department effectiveness.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of all evaluation and reporting for clinical programs, prevention programs, and administrative departments.
  • Develops data dashboards and all outcome reports.
  • Oversees and updates monthly Scorecards for all programs and support departments.
  • Provides education to staff on data or statistical analysis of trends to improve outcomes.
  • Assists programs in the development of client surveys to include (but not limited to) satisfaction surveys and aftercare surveys.

Residential Care Specialist – FT & Part-Time: St. Peter’s Lane Campus – Matthews, NC

Thompson, located in the Charlotte/Matthews area, has openings for the Residential Care Specialist positions in two different residential programs. The ideal candidate is able to exhibit a positive, upbeat attitude to encourage youth interaction and understands the cultural diversity of youths, their families and team members. This position teaches and models healthy and safe relationships.

PRTF (Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility): This program provides 24-hour direct care to youths ages 6 – 13 in the residential treatment program by providing a safe therapeutic home setting in a positive, consistent and structured environment. This includes mental health support and documentation based on service goals and plans for each youth. Significant events and behavior shall be documented and communicated in daily process notes. This position plans, provides and supervises the daily activities of the youths in the program to build self-esteem and appropriate peer interaction for each youth. This position is responsible for building a safe and positive relationship with each youth using basic principles of reality therapy without punitive approaches while providing engaging, nurturing structure. This individual must have the ability to appropriately intervene to meet the needs of the youth and their family members gain the skills and confidence to address issues and problems as they take place. This program does require staff to be able to maintain sufficient physical agility and stamina to intervene with uncooperative youths and must be able to exert the minimum necessary strength to restrain and subdue the youth if necessary.  Staff must be capable of running a distance as required in the prevention of a youth absconding.  For consideration, applicants must be 18 years of age to work in this program.

Thompson Connect: Individuals in this program work with adolescents ages 12 – 17 in a short-term residential program. This position will provide guidance, support and mentoring to adolescent youths including assisting with transitional living skills and daily functioning.  This person must have the ability to appropriately intervene to meet the needs of the adolescents and their collaterals to gain the skills and confidence to address issues and problems as they take place. This position is responsible for teaching and modeling independent living skills as it relates to the adolescent population and for teaching and modeling healthy and safe relationships. For consideration, applicants must be 23 years of age to work in this program.

  • Residential Care Specialist – Position works in the milieu daily as outlined in the program descriptions above.
  • Part-Time Residential Care Specialist – Position works in the milieu as outlined in the program descriptions above on an as needed basis to help cover ratio needs.
  • Lead Residential Care Specialist – In addition to the tasks mentioned in the program outlines above, Leads shall assist the Program Supervisor in the overseeing of the daily operations of the program, cottage activities and care of clients.  This position will also assist in coordination of care, staffing patterns, and environments that support the treatment philosophy. This position provides support to staff while working in a 24-hour direct care program with children in the program. Leads will ensure Residential Care Specialists uphold the standards of a therapeutic milieu, including ensuring a non-punitive approach when working with clients. Coordinates activities that are developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed. This position works alongside Program Supervisor to ensure adequate coverage of all shifts and helps provide staff supervision to direct reports. Responsible for briefing and debriefing staff members as they come on or off their shift. Ensures appropriate supervision of clients is being provided by the staff. Supports the implementation of effective crisis co-regulation strategies that minimize the usage of physical restraints. May be expected to participate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings, as needed.  Works with Program Supervisors to create an inspiring team environment with open communication. Four-year degree in Human Service or related field with a minimum of two years of population specific experience working with clients emotional difficulties ideal for this position.  Must have the ability to respond effectively within and cope with an environment that can be extremely stressful on the mind and body.

Youth Partner:  St. Peter’s Lane Campus – Matthews, NC

Thompson, located in the Charlotte/Matthews area, has an opening for a Youth Partner in our short-term residential program working with adolescents ages 12-17.  The Youth Partner is someone who understands youths in the program and can support them in their recovery process to achieve positive outcomes. The Youth Partner adds value to the multidisciplinary team in several ways. Because Youth Partners have experienced similar challenges, they can often engage and communicate with youths at levels family members or professionals may not be able to. They understand the lifestyles and culture of the youths they work with and they understand how it feels to live with behavioral health challenges. The Youth Partner works within the System of Care values and principles.

This position will:

  • Provide education and assistance in navigating child welfare, education, behavioral/mental health, juvenile justice, school, primary care, etc.
  • Assist the youth to understand and express their needs, goals and decisions.
  • Role model effective behavior for the client to show a pattern of having healthy relationships with others; showing positive and healthy responses to stress and conflict and demonstrating positive social skills.
  • Help the youths learn self-advocacy skills to articulate talents and strengths and get involved in positive activities where they can succeed.
  • Promote and strengthen healthy relationships that will help support and develop the youth’s social skills and a social environment.
  • Assist the youths in navigating uncomfortable environments, new situations and/or unfamiliar people.
  • Provide Child & Family Team members with information regarding service providers in order to facilitate informed provider choice.
  • Maintain client records that provide a clear picture of services provided and referrals made.

Qualifications include: The Youth Partner understands the lifestyles and culture of the youths they work with. They understand how it feels to live with behavioral health challenges and have the experience to guide clients through those challenges. High school diploma or GED and a minimum of four years of experience working with adolescents or an Associate’s Degree in Human Services or related field with one year of experience working with adolescents required. Life experience can be in lieu of work experience. Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field preferred. Position requires staff to be at least 23 years of age to work in this program.

Director – PRTF:  St. Peter’s Lane Campus – Matthews, NC

Thompson Child & Family Focus, located in the Charlotte/Matthews area, has an opening for the Director position in the Psychiatric Residential Treatment Program (PRTF).  This position will oversee the daily operations of the residential attachment program, cottage activities and care of youths, as well as, coaching the supervisors and giving direction to the overall residential milieu.  This position shall assist in coordination of care, staffing patterns, on-call coverage, budgets, and environments that support the treatment philosophy. Duties include supervising Program Supervisors, Education Director, and Clinical Manager, as well as working as part of PRTF leadership team to provide the best care possible for the children and families in the program.

This program provides 24-hour direct care to youths ages 6 – 13 in the residential treatment program by providing a safe therapeutic home setting in a positive, consistent and structured environment. This includes mental health support and documentation based on service goals and plans for each youth. Significant events and behavior shall be documented and communicated in daily process notes.  This position supervises the staff that plans, provides and supervises the daily activities of the youths in the program to build self-esteem and appropriate peer interaction for each youth. This position is responsible for building a safe and positive relationship with each youth using basic principles of reality therapy without punitive approaches while providing engaging, nurturing structure. This individual must have the ability to appropriately intervene to meet the needs of the youth and their family members gain the skills and confidence to address issues and problems as they take place. For consideration, applicants must be 18 years of age to work in this program. This position is also responsible for coaching Supervisors in doing the same thing.

This position will:

  • Works in conjunction with the Medical Director and Vice President of Residential Services in the development, improvement, and implementation of best practices and appropriate treatment models.
  • Assures program is meeting and sustaining accreditation standards, DPI standards and mental health/Medicaid guidelines.
  • Assists with developing and monitoring evaluation process for Treatment Services program including outcome data and tools and CQI process as it relates to residential services.
  • Oversees residential program’s routines to ensure best practices and adherence to relationship-based philosophy.
  • Help manage the personnel, training and Human Resource needs of the residential program staff.
  • Monitor to ensure that all required cottage, clinical, and educational paperwork is completed within appropriate timeframes.
  • Support on-call responsibilities to fill in for Program Supervisors and/or other direct reports when needed.
  • Assist in coordination of training and development with support from the Medical Director and training.
  • Assists with the development of fiscally sound budgets and ensures that monthly expenditures stay within the allocated budgeted dollars.
  • Identifies areas in need of quality improvement and works with or guides appropriate TCFF staff to continuously develop and improve programming and services.
  • Ensures all scorecard measures that have been set are met and a plan to address is put in place and followed through on if needed.
  • Coordinates the use of volunteers within the residential program.

Must have the ability to respond effectively within and cope with an environment that can be extremely stressful on the mind and body. The key priorities of the Grant Specialist include: formulating and justifying budgets for proposals; preparing monthly department/project specific general ledgers from financial software (Blackbaud); preparing financial status reports for reimbursements, applications and grant closures; and, ensuring proposals and progress fiscal reports comply with guidelines and regulations for external funding agencies.

This position performs a variety of duties to support the life cycle of grant-funded program projects. These duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Monitor expenditures and analyze the burn-rate on funded projects
  • Conduct budget meetings to gather financial data and to discuss project needs
  • Comply with agency guidelines as well as funder’s guidelines
  • Document cost allocations and maintain fiscal standards of work for compliance standards for each project

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
